COSPLAY COMPETITION
Dress up, gear up and arm up as your favourite character from any anime, manga or video game! Play out your role and stand a chance to win fabulous prizes! Come as a group, or go solo and conquer the stage!
Individual Cosplay:
- First Prize - RM 300 + Goodie bag
- Second Prize - RM 200 + Goodie bag
- Third Prize - RM 100 + Goodie bag
Group Cosplay:
- First Prize - RM 500 + Goodie bag
- Second Prize - RM 300 + Goodie bag
- Third Prize - RM 200 + Goodie bag
Competition Details
- Solo Cosplay Competition will be held on Day 1 (11th December 2010) and Group Cosplay Competition will be held on Day 2 (12th December 2010).
- Minimum member for group category are 2 persons.
- Prize giving ceremony will be done at 5pm on each day.

General Cosplay Rules
- This competition is open to ALL who are interested regardless of age, gender, nationality and so on and so forth. In short, all are welcome to participate.
- Participants below the age of 12 MUST have their parents consent before registering for the competition. When registering, the HobbyCon Committee will automatically assume that consent has been given to the child by the parent. The HobbyCon Committee will not be held liable for any mishap that might occur.
- Materials such as props, makeup, costumes and audio are to be prepared by the cosplayers themselves. All cosplayers are responsible for their own property; The HobbyCon Committee holds no responsibility towards any damages or losses during the event.
- For safety reasons, no explosives / radioactive / reactive / corrosive / flammable / volatile / toxic substances are allowed. In addition to that, all dangerous weapons or any other props that may bring harm to others are firmly forbidden. On stage, (non-firing) toy weapons will be allowed without any doubt but do bear in mind that any real weapon will result in immediate disqualification.
- Performances that might endanger the cosplayer or the public are not allowed.
- Acts that include confetti, fireworks, flash paper, small messy objects or other forms of pyrotechnic and water are also strictly banned. In addition, no food and/or animal are allowed on stage. This is to ensure a clean and hassle-free program flow. In a nutshell, what goes on stage comes down with you.
- Participants are required to dress and act decently. Revealing clothes, nudity and/or vulgar actions are strictly prohibited inside the campus where the competition is being held.
- The HobbyCon Committee reserves the right to change the rules and regulations without prior notice.

Individual/Group Cosplay Competition Guide
- Kindly download and fill up the registration form for the cosplay competition here and email it to contact@hobbycon.my together with a picture of your character and any audio file you might want to play for your turn.
- Any file that is to big to be attached to the email can be uploaded to any file-sharing sites (e.g.: mediafire, megaupload and rapidshare) and do include the link to the file in your email. The HobbyCon Committee will then download the file. The audio is not compulsory for each participant, however, the picture is.
- The deadline for registration is at 5.00pm on 30th of November sharp. However, registration booth will still be available on both days of Hobbycon and any last minute registration must be done by 1pm. That being said, the committee would like to encourage all cosplayer who are interested to register earlier before Hobbycon to ensure that the competition will run smoothly on the day itself.
- All participants who have submitted their registration forms to us are required to confirm their participation latest by 11.00am on 11th of December (the day of the event).
- Cosplayers are allowed to cosplay any character from the following genre:
• Anime
• Manga
• Games
• Movies
• J-dramas
• J-pop/rock (with specific title)
- There are 3 prizes to be won in the Best Cosplayer & Best Group Cosplayer category. They are the first prize, runner up and second runner up.
- The judges’ decision is final. No appeals would be entertained.
- Please email / send us your background music (IF ANY) for your skit/performance on stage during the cosplay competition. Last minute registration and song submission however, will not be accepted. We will use a selected/standard song for you while you're on stage. To avoid any technical complication, please register before 30th November 2009.
- Please furnish us with details/description of the character you are cosplaying. This will assist the judges to understand your character more and for the MC to announce/promote your character while you're up there strutting your characters to the crowd :)

SOLO and GROUP cosplay competition format:
There will be 2 rounds during the cosplay competition (both solo and group category).
*Round 1 - Cosplayer will have to walk and pose to the crowd and judges. You can do anything to reflect your character here to gain points.
*Round 2 - Cosplayer are encouraged to do a skit, performance or any gimmick: There WILL BE NO minimum time for their skit / performance i.e: you may even do it in 20 seconds if you want.
Cosplayer are allowed to sing (miming is also allowed if you're insecure about your voice XD), dance or act for any amount of time as long as it does not exceed 7 minutes. This applies to both solo and group cosplay competition.
If there are no skit or performance to be shown, you may do a 2nd round pose and walk to the crowd and judges.
*3 winners will be selected out of the bunch. May the best cosplayer wins!
PS: We hope this new format will be more convenient and most importantly does not hamper the creative ideas the cosplayers have! ^^

Judging criteria
Round 1
Personality (20 points)
i.e. character’s signature move/style/pose/personality/simple skit.
Costumes/Props (20 points)
Workmanship i.e. how faithful the costumes are to the original Character (applys for both INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS categories).
Faithfulness to story (10 points)
How faithful is the performance to the story of the original work and characters, and is the cosplayer in character.
Round 2 *points will be carried forward from the preliminary round
Skit Performance (30 points)
In Relation to the production of performance, creativity of elements and entertainment.
Points Breakdown:
• 10 points for concept /creativity of the skit
• 5 points for preparation
• 5 points for acting/dancing skills/personality
• 10 points for entertainment
Faithfulness to story (20 points)
How faithful is the performance to the story of the original work and characters, and is the cosplayer in character (ALL categories)
Point breakdown:
• 15 points for being “in character” (for both INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS categories)
• 5 points for having a skit faithful to the story.
